Turning technology from mumbo-jumbo into rich tasty gumbo
CAPITAL IDEA | Main | LOC Units I stopped being a pup today: I am 34. Can I still be the youngster as I approach what was formerly known as middle-aged? I don't feel any older than 15 years ago, although I'm somewhat more mature. I still giggle, laugh, tell jokes, do strange things. But I also get interviewed for Time magazine supplements and write for the New York Times as a freelancer. And I think 20 years olds Way Too Young For Their Own Good. And their music Sounds Like Noise to Me. Bring out that good old band, R.E.M.!

Speaking as someone who's a third of the way through 34, it's pretty nice. The secret to staying and feeling young is simply eating food with lots of antioxidants and never looking at a pair of checkered golf pants with white golf shoes and thinking "yes...that's EXACTLY the look I'm going for!"
The National Post ran an article a while back covering the new in-demand man -- the SMILT (Single Man In Late Thirties). Twentysomething women can't get enough of them. I figure the best is yet to come. In fact, you might want to pretend to be slightly older: just comment about the "damned kids, their 'technical music' and their horse tranquilizers".
Happy birthday from one 34-year old to another.

Dye your hair grey. People will think you're much older than you really are... and you'll feel proud to be *only* 34!

As always, R.E.M. has the answer to all life's questions:
Stand in the place where you live
Now face north
Think about direction
Wonder why you haven't now
Don't worry about it, Glenn! Just be where you are. ;-) I, too am approaching the event horizon (at 30.6), and Apple may as well come out with a new mp3 player just for me - iREM!
Cheers,
--Steve
