Clones Comments (no secrets, but some spoilage)

I saw Star Wars, Episode II: Attack of the Clones this morning. Hey, George Lucas remembered how to make a fun film with great effects! Gone is the tedious small-mindedness of the first film. Gone is the angelic and annoyingly flat child actor playing Anakin, and no mention of midi chloridians. ("Master Qui Jon, you keep talking about these midi chloridians. What are midi chloridians anyway?" "Well, Jimmy, you might remember me from such educational films as Two Minus Three Equals Negative Fun....").

Mercifully reduced in appearance and actually central to the plot: Jar-Jar Binks. Some extremely wooden acting in the first few scenes, but excellent fights and effects. The acting warms up quite a bit, and, you know, there's a real story there. Excellent visualization of some new aliens. A gladiator scene.

A lot of fun, even at 8 am on opening day. A very tired audience (friends offered me and my fiancee tickets, so we only had to get up at 6 am today, not 6 am Tuesday). One of Master Yoda's late appearances in the film got a huge round of applause. Oh, yeah, even Yoda is rehabilitated with meaningful dialog.

Though i agree with the comments about phantom menace, i can't agree about clones.

Yoda had meaningful dialogue? where? In an outtake perhaps. Rearranging his sentences, meaningful dialogue makes not.

Gone was the wise Yoda and in his place was a moron. Neither he, nor anyone else could see the clues staring them in the face that the whole clone army and the growing droid army was a setup.

The whole forbidden love aspect was awfully written, I was cringing and was embarrassed for them.

The CGI was over used and though for the most part good, in places poor and gratuitus. Who needs to think about how to make a scene look good and be creative, just throw in CG at every opportunity. Though it is fantasy it should still be believable.

The original trilogy (before Lucas went back and messed them up) can be watched again and again and stand the test of time. They had humour but it wasn't based on cheap gags or rehashed lines for those "in the know".

Some of the film was good and I enjoyed the battle and jedi doing they're thing, but it didn't have enough solidity to it (but then the enemy aren't really there).

It's because I am a star wars fan that I feel dissappointed, it could have been so much better. A case of lots of money not much thought or writing talent.
