Mike Daisey Gets Served

My friend and erstwhile Seattlite Mike Daisey had 87 people walk out on a performance of his show Invincible Summer at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Mass. Why? Because he used the word fuck in his show, apparently. This was an organized protest, and one person poured water on his handwritten notes for the show. Daisey's response is totally amazing and captured on video.

Glenn is correct, and Jim is just desperately and trying to make noise. Jim's post here is dated May 4th. But prior to May 3rd Jim made a post with the same accusation on the YouTube video comments section.

Also prior to May 3rd Mike Daisey answered Jim (and the world in a post already more than a week old) in the same comments area by correctly stating that the YouTube video was originally posted (with descriptive paragraph) on April 20th prior to Mike Daisey's phone call with David. Mike Daisey explained that he edited the video the next day, April 21st, which is why YouTube shows that posting date.

On the video it can be heard that one member of the group said they were "christians" which was not exactly true. It was later discovered that the group was a choir group from Norco High School, a public high school. Some members of that choir are not christians.

If Jim is so concerned about misrepresentations, maybe he should be entering a dialogue with his child's chaperones.

I,am a Father,of one of the kids, my son was there .
One thing most people are missing. It seems to me, Mr Mike Daisey, knew before he posted on youtube, who this group were and came from. In the info area of the clip It states 87 members of a Christian group. why?
I talk to him about this in messages ,he said he had posted before he knew who they were. It does not look that way to me . The one that puts the clips on youtube, are able to pull their clips, and repost, They can remove comments and block veiwers from making a comment. Which he did to me.
Day of walk out 4-19-07
Talked with Cindy L. from the school and the man the poured water David 4-20-07 acording to news papers and his site.
Youtube shows posted 4-21-07.
Why? After reading much about Mr. Daisey and hid followers. I think I have the answer.
Seems as he forgave 1 and punished 86 others lets not count the other 11 adults just the 75 kids that were 14-17 years of age.
He heard there cries with their comments .
They were high school kids from s. California .there for choral competition.
Thanks Jim

[Editor's note: I'm not Mike, so I can't explain all the details, but it doesn't seem as inconsistent to me: He was told it was a Christian group and later found out it wasn't. The YouTube clip I saw was posted before the date you mention. Perhaps it was updated later.--gf]

Hi Glenn!
Congrats on a second bouncing baby boy! I love the name Rex!

So, Art came across your post about Mike Daisy - he too has been blogging about it at:
http://mirroruptolife.blogspot.com/

We saw the show a few days "post incident" and really enjoyed it. I thought of you and Lynn when he mentioned Seattle, but who knew that he knew you!

Pretty darn cool. Hope you're getting some sleep.

This video is a must-see for anyone who gives public presentations. Daisey's recovery, specifically the way he involves the audience in rebuilding the performance, is masterful. I suspect he'll soon be adding a riff in the show thanking the disruptors for lots and lots of free publicity.
